Parts of South Sudan Anticipate Heavy Rainfall in early August 2023

Heavy to very heavy rainfall greater than 200mm is expected in much of central to northern Ethiopia, western Eritrea, much of southern Sudan, central and isolated areas in northern and southern South Sudan, and isolated areas in northern Uganda. Flooding is likely to occur in flood-prone areas.

IGAD Climate Predication and Application Center have predicted that Moderate rainfall of 50-200mm is anticipated over southern Sudan and much of South Sudan, western Eritrea, central to northern Ethiopia, northern Uganda, and isolated areas in western Kenya.

Light rainfall of less than 50 mm is projected over central to northern Sudan, south-eastern South Sudan, parts of central to eastern Ethiopia, parts of coastal Eritrea, northern and southern Somalia, Djibouti, eastern and southern Tanzania, coastal and western Kenya, and central to south-western Uganda per IGAD Climate Predication and Application Center alerts.

Moderate to high temperatures of 20-32℃ is also expected over South Sudan, central to southern Sudan, eastern and northern Kenya, north-western and eastern Tanzania, Somalia, south-eastern Ethiopia, and much of Uganda based on the warnings.

For his part, Mr.Badreldin Fartak, the forecaster and Communication officer of South Sudan Meteorological Services has confirmed that the weekly rainfall forecast indicates moderate rainfall between 50 – 200mm is anticipated in much of the country states.

Western Equatoria, Central Equatoria, Western Bahr – El Gazal State, Lakes State, Warrap State, Unity State, Northern Bahr – El Gazal State, parts of Pibor Administrative Area, Upper Nile State and Parts of Eastern Equatoria. The warmer temperature expected is 28 degrees in Renk and Eastern Equatoria State and the lower temperature expected 16-degree Fatak explained.
